BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Lewandowski is a board-certified Clinical Neuropsychologist and the Clinical Director of Neuropsychology Associates. He specializes in the evaluation and treatment of children, adolescents and adults who suffer from cognitive, emotional, and behavioral difficulties related to neurological diseases or injuries, including memory impairment, concussions, dementia, traumatic brain injury, learning and attention disabilities and autism. 

Dr. Lewandowski earned his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at Virginia Tech. He completed his first year of residency training (intern) at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and his second and third years of residency training (postgraduate supervision) in Neuropsychology with the U.S. Army Medical Department at Evans Army Hospital.  He completed his postdoctoral studies and is board-certified in Neuropsychology.

Prior to practicing in Kalamazoo, Dr. Lewandowski served on Active Duty with the US Army at several locations including Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Ft. Benning, Ft. Camplbell, Ft. Irwin, and Ft. Carson. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant through the Reserve Officer Training Corps where he was awarded a Regular Army commission and earned honors as a Distinguished Military student and Distinguished Military Graduate. He completed paratrooper training at the U.S. Army Airborne School and served as a clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist on the U.S. Army Forces Command with the 4th Infantry Division. 

Dr. Lewandowski completed postdoctoral training in Neuropsychology and has over forty-five publications in the areas of neuropsychology, psychological ethics, and and the cognitive effects of of experimental medications in Phase I and Phase II clinical trials. He has been a consultant to the Centers for Disease Control, the State of Michigan Deparment of Education and the Pain and Symptom Management Committee, and the Department of Defense for Military Operational Medicine (MOM).  He is a Fellow of the Michigan Psychological Association and of the American College of Professional Neuropsychology, and is active in several national neuropsychological organizations.

Dr. Lewandowski holds hospital privileges at both Ascension Borgess Hospital and Bronson Methodist Hospital where he consults to the Trauma Services and Critical Care Surgery Departments, and is active in teaching resident physicians and graduate students in the cognitive and emotional impact of neuropsychological injuries. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine. In addition, he has multiple adjunct appointments at Western Michigan University's Graduate School that include the Psychology Department, Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology, the College of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Military Science and Leadership through the Haworth College of Business. He is also an instructor in Neuroanatomy at the College of Health Sciences at Marquette University, in Milwaukee, WI, where he assists in teaching an intensive short course in the neuroanatomical dissection of the human brain and spinal cord. 

Dr. Lewandowski is the Chair of the Ethics Committee and a member of the Board of Directors for the Michigan Psychological Association. On the national level, he served as a member of the American Psychological Association Board of Directors’ Standing Hearing Panel for the Office of Ethics and as a member of the American Psychological Association Ethics Committee. He was awarded the Distinguished Psychologist of the Year from the Michigan Psychological Association and was twice awarded Western Michigan University’s Professor of the Day in the Haworth College of Business for the Department of Military Science and Leadership. He holds a Certificate of Professional Qualification in Psychology from the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards, Registration through the National Register of Health Providers in Psychology, and is board-certified in Neuropsychology by the American Board of Professional Neuropsychology.
